Giant Laughter

Leaf was deeply concerned. Using a great club the size of small tree, the hill giant just crushed Slyl's skull with the force of five men. Pavel and Mithinu had been pelted in the chest with large boulders and although the company was heartily attacking the creature, the outcome of this battle was not looking promising.

Tasha's Hideous Laughter was one of Leaf's signature spells. In previous fights, he had used it successfully nearly as often as it had failed to take effect. He was worried that the humor of half-elves might not "translate" well into... er, smelly giant humor. It was worth a shot. The tall brown man fell to the road, collapsing into gales of manic laughter.

This was Pavel's cue. He mounted his steed, calling out to the others, "Let's go. Let's go now. I wish to live." He was right to do so. There were others approaching and soon the party would have had one, very big, giant problem.

Mauran "Manacles" Deepwell

"Tell me governor, just how does one find an ugly hat like yours?"

An hour later...

"Do you like Dwarven Ale? Because you look like one governor! In fact, I think perhaps your dwarvie buds may have mistaken that stony face of yours for a slab of granite? Eh, governor?"

2 hours later...

"Well anyways, what I didn't tell 'em can't hurt me. That's what I always say. Even if they catch up to the Agony, they'll not survive IYTHUZACH. Lucky me, the Baneites pay in advance."

3 hours later...

"Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz."

The Moon's Hand

[5 Mirtul, 1373 - Veronika's Diary]
Veronika dipped her quill into the tiny ink jar again, dripping tiny blue droplets in a spray upon the stiff parchment. The edge of the feather's point scraped uncomfortably fast as she captured her spiritual feelings.

"He was more than a priest," she scribed, "for his passion for Selûne's countenance broke free of its station and I felt it—as I feel Her power when I open myself to special visions, insights, and intuitions."

Veronika remembered the powerful image of the Moon's Hand that topped Evan Caulder's mace. She recalled how the crafted weapon had cast arched shadows upon the standing stones while Sir Evan spoke of the Lady's greatness.

"I have come to learn his calling from the Moonmaiden had been true, for he departed our following to fight in the Storming of Kurthkeep! How humble he was to keep us from this knowledge. Blessed be our following for all he has done! Let all love alive under her light know Her blessing. Through her chosen, Evan Caulder, She has forever touched my spirit."

FALCON

The blue-eyed bard stood in the center of town upon the historic encampment's highest point, his friends listening intently beside him. He gestured to the statue and the well as he spoke:

"Artimis Falconwell was a human miner who struck a vein of precious ore here, digging this well and making his encampment here. He used mine labor to make his fortune and during that time the town of Falconwell established itself. Over time the place became called Falcon for short."

The party stood for a moment, taking in the quaint, unspoiled beauty of this day and their surroundings. They looked about and saw The Encampment Inn, and Yurgrit's Costermongary and Supply. They turned in the direction of the scent of cooked beef with hints of spices that floated their way upon the breeze. After hitching their horses, the adventurers proceeded into The Deepfires, having never seen the tiny figure so quietly crouched in the treetops—listening, ... listening.

Great R-P everyone! See you next week.

Slyl Collects

Slyl was surrounded by thugs. He purposefully showed bravery, even audacity, by standing so close to the others, not keeping a safe distance from their poisoned daggers. He placed Bourstag's blood-soaked seavered head upon the oaken bar, standing confidently upright, knowing he had technically completed his assignment. He was here to demand payment, but this time certain he would survive—he still had two charges left on the ring from Raven's Bluff, and this meant success no matter what danger they threw at him.

Heliofax the Black was not known to tremble or falter in any way, but this time his leg quivered a bit, causing him to shift his weight uncomfortably from side to side as he approached Slyl. He was close enough to study Slyl carefully, and did so for a time. His dagger, coated in poison, was ready to take a life this night. He thought Slyl should know how the Guild had used him before he died, and told him so.

Slyl didn't flinch as he bluffed, silently requesting something to write with. Heliofax struck the dagger deep into slyl, horified that Slyl was not unnerved by this violent act. "He is much stronger than I know," the black clad Assassin thought, "perhaps I have misjudged him."

The Rashemi rogue behind the bar winked once to Slyl, showing his support, indicating he had at least a single ally in this room on so late a night. Slyl bled upon the floor and waited for his deserved collection of books. Heliofax the Black, though disappointed in himself, did not show his frustration as he removed the three remaining tomes owed to Slyl and placed them on the table. The uncomfortable silence experienced here could deafen a person.

Slyl took the books, now the full collection of magical instruction was his. He had profited this night, thanks to the Company of Light and Darkness, without whom the 'Haldoreeve' could not have been destroyed easily, or at all.

Slyl exited Knifethrower's Inn and turned around to speak, perhaps just to insult the fooled Guild Leader one more time. Jaws dropped, and a gasp was heard as he closed the door behind him.

Coins of the Realms

Coins usually have the profile of the current ruler, the name of the territory or city, and a date on one side, and another icon/picture on the reverse. The names of the coins (Cormyran silver falcon, for example) often originate from the picture on the reverse of the coin.

Most coins are accepted (perhaps with some grumbling) at face value anywhere in the Realms. I have discontinued the use of electrum as currency, except as noted for the high trading places on of western Faerûn such as Waterdeep, Neverwinter, Amn, and Calimshan).

The coins minted below are listed in order, beginning with the most frequent, as related to our specific campaign area, The Far Vast.

*Calimshan: Volothamp (Silver Espedrille, Gold Rekatik, Platinum Mandrille)
*Individual city-states of Calimshan mint their own coins but all can be found anywhere in the country, and often elsewhere in the Forgotten Realms. These coins (including thier weird names) are from the Empire of the Sands sourcebook.

Trade Bars
Merchants in the Forgotten Realms commonly use small trade bars of electrum or silver in 10, 25 and 50 gp denominations. They will be stamped with the denomination, the trading company's trail mark or merchant's symbol, and sometimes a date (30% chance). The merchant nation of Amn mints large trade bars valued at 500 and 1000 gp.

Damaran Bloodstone
The nation of Damara at its height exported chalcedony (bloodstone) bars in 25 gp denominations. After its fall these bloodstone bars were deemed worthless. However the country is now struggling to get back on its feet, and the bars may once again become valuable.

A Debit of Knowledge

Kelestri's eyes widened suddenly as the idea struck her. In that moment she was back in the Calimport marketplace intensely haggling for cloth and wares. Only now, around her were volumes of knowledge she could not begin to sort through in a lifetime. Her eyes affixed intently upon the reticent man who's spine seemed slightly arched beneath his scriber's cloak. "Perhaps we can repay this loan with the knowledge we bring back? Maybe our good friend Animosus Constans, the new Kurth Garrison Commander, can vouch for our good name?"

Kelestri knew she had him. "Animosus was here just yesterday, er, let's reduce the fee to a mere 150 gold. We look forward to the information you will bring us from the Earthspur Mountains. Lives were given to acquire this map; the knowledge you return to us should be commensurate. Please wait here a moment while we procure the map."

DREZZ

"Em ekka gratu nag drone krez. Ish pirit gret agin surm, bos miklaern master vuden esh."
